The Space Frontier Foundation has decided to give me its award for outstanding journalist in the commercial spaceflight field. From the website of the SFF’s annual conference, where I’ll be given the award at a gala this Saturday:

Michael Belfiore – NewSpace Journalism – This award is for outstanding achievement in journalism spotlighting NewSpace. Michael Belfiore is a writer for Popular Mechanics and a dedicated advocate for the opening of the space frontier.

Not sure if it’s a plaque or a space rock I’ll be given or what, but I’m looking forward to getting toasted and enjoying a day at the conference, which looks to have a great lineup of panel discussions on settling the final frontier. Also looking forward to meeting some NASA folks in person whom I’ve only talked with by phone and email and catching up with other pioneers in the commercial space industry whom I’ve been following over the last ten years.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend than to be lauded by a group of mad dreamers dedicated to making this world a better place by helping all of us reach for the stars. I’m honored to be welcomed as one of their own.
